BIRDS IN ART - Feathers, Flight & Fantasy
Birds are embedded in our imagination with their exuberant appearances and ability to fly, their symbolism stretching from hope and peace to evil and horror, from vulnerability to bravery, covering religion, politics, love, war and beyond. We envy and worship them, capture, hunt and even eat them, and adorn ourselves with their feathers. Expanding upon the 2026 exhibition titled Birds: Curated by the Goldfinch and Simon Schama, at the Mauritshuis in the Hague, this is a comparative exploration of birds in world art through some of the most iconic, fascinating and inspiring examples.
